What causes otherwise bright and rational people to obsess on the second shooter on the grassy knoll, government cover-ups of alien contact, secret ruling cabals, Jewish bankers, fluoride in tap water, and similar dark conspiracies about which only a few brave souls know the “real truth”?

Is there anything, in the world of musical equipment, more hyped than tubes? Every catalog and every gear website is laden with chatter about the warmth, fatness, and “vintage tone” you’ll get from their tube pedals and preamps. A little knowledge will quickly bust through the lies told by sellers of these audiophile items.

Electro-Harmonix has been at the forefront of the effects pedal market for decades. They have consistently come up with a stream of novel, interesting, and vivid-sounding circuit designs–so obviously they deserve some respect .
On the other hand, EH has also bungled a large percentage of those designs, in the actual implementation or manufacturing. What happened?
